Kudos to longtime St. John Center board member Bill Lockard and his brother Dan for putting on another fine event Monday, Oct. 1 at Shelbyville Country Club. A total of 138 golfers participated in the 11th annual St. John Center Benefit Golf Scramble which raised $23,144.23 to continue SJC’s mission of caring for the area’s homeless men. A huge thank you goes out to the golfers that played but also to the companies and individuals who funded foursomes and sponsored holes. We very much appreciate the many businesses and individuals that donated items for the silent auction. Your contributions netted $2,798! Special thanks go out to Armstrong Relocation and Pegasus Transportation, Bill and Dan’s respective employers, for their support. In addition, Jeff Duncan and Acordia of Kentucky once again gave the golfers a shot at a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one. Marc Roberts of Liquor Barn donated quality Sancho Panza stogies that were sold at the event. In its history, the St. John Center Benefit Golf Scramble has probably brought in close to $200,000 for the facility. And Bill Lockard is the man that makes it happen. While it is true that he gets a lot of help and support from his friends, family and business associates, Bill is the man who organizes it and makes it happen. He digs deep into his own pockets every year to make certain the outing is successful. St. John Center is so very fortunate to have Bill Lockard as a board member, ambassador, and friend. Make plans now to take part in the 12th annual St. John Center Benefit Golf Scramble which will be held in late September or early October 2008. We’ll let you know when the date is finalized. Call 568-6758 for more information. Ask for Keith. |
